Supervisory visits are required for home health aides and sometimes for other staff depending on state and CoP. Missing them or documenting them poorly is a survey risk.
What’s required
Check your state and the CoP. Typically a nurse supervises aides: in-person supervisory visit at least every 14 days when the aide is providing care, and the visit has to be in the patient’s home when the aide is there. The supervisor observes care, reviews the plan, and documents. Some states have additional rules.
How to document
Note what was observed, whether the aide is following the plan, and any teaching or correction. Sign and date. Keep a log so you don’t miss a 14-day window. Missing a supervisory visit is a common survey finding,a simple tracker by aide and patient prevents that. We have a supervisory visit checklist you can download: frequency, what to observe, and documentation requirements. Use the button below to get it.
