Finding nurses and therapists who want to do home health is harder than filling a hospital job. You’re competing with other agencies and with other settings. You have to sell the fit.
Where to find them
Referrals from current staff, job boards (indeed, LinkedIn, state nursing and therapy associations), and sometimes contract or travel agencies for short-term needs. Post the job where home health clinicians look; generic “nurse wanted” posts get lost. Highlight schedule flexibility, autonomy, and patient relationships, that’s what many home health clinicians want.
Screening for fit
Home health isn’t for everyone. Ask about driving, solo practice, and documentation. Check references. A great hospital nurse who hates paperwork will struggle. Plan competency and orientation so new hires are ready for field and documentation. We have a recruiting checklist you can download: sourcing, screening questions, and what to cover in the interview.
