Telehealth and remote patient monitoring (RPM) can support home health when used within the rules. Payers have specific requirements; using them wrong can cost you.
When to use them
Telehealth: when the payer allows it (e.g. for certain visits or as a supplement). RPM: when you’re monitoring vitals or other data and the payer covers it. Check each contract,Medicare, MA, and Medicaid have different rules. Don’t assume what worked last year still applies. For documentation and consent, align with your HIPAA compliance and payer requirements.
What payers expect
Documentation of the encounter, consent where required, and that the service was medically necessary. Payer rules change; check your contracts and MAC updates annually. We have a telehealth/RPM checklist you can download: when to use, what to document, and a short payer-check list. Use the button below to get it.
