Why SLAs and handoffs matter

Referral sources judge you on how fast you can start care. If intake sits on a packet for days or handoffs are vague, you lose referrals and burn relationships. Define target days for each stage (referral in → eligibility verified → F2F/order checked → auth when needed → SOC scheduled). One person should own each stage so accountability is clear.

Who owns what

Assign a single owner per step: who receives the referral, who runs eligibility, who checks F2F and order-to-note match, who gets auth, who schedules SOC. Handoffs need a clear “done” criterion (e.g. “Intake complete, all four sections passed”) and a place to log it. When something stalls, you know who to ask.

What to track
